North Carolina State University (NC State) is gearing up for the 2023 season with a groundbreaking enhancement to Wayne Day Family Field at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. Daktronics, a renowned company based in Brookings, South Dakota, listed on NASDAQ as DAKT, has been selected to manufacture and install one of the largest video displays in the Atlantic Coast Conference, ranking among the Top 10 in college football.
This state-of-the-art HDR-capable display will cover an expansive 7,100 square feet, boasting over 6.6 million pixels. The installation is slated for completion in the upcoming spring. Justin Stoll, Associate Athletic Director and Senior Coordinating Producer for NC State, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting the immense size and clarity of the North Board. Stoll anticipates that the display will offer an unparalleled viewing experience for fans and significant exposure for partners.
The new North Board, situated in the north end zone, will be an impressive 43 feet high and 166 feet wide. Its dimensions are designed to captivate fans, providing an enhanced game-day experience. With a pixel spacing of 10 millimeters and cutting-edge environmental protection, the display is built to withstand the outdoor conditions in Raleigh.
Stoll emphasized the multifunctional capabilities of the display, allowing for the presentation of team and individual stats, out-of-town scores, and other essential data. This integration aims to rival the at-home viewing experience, fostering engagement within the venue. Stoll also highlighted the synchronization of all surfaces within Carter-Finley Stadium, promising an exceptional game-day atmosphere.
Corey Williams, a sales representative at Daktronics, acknowledged the challenges associated with creating such a colossal display and expressed pride in partnering with NC State for this landmark installation. The collaboration includes the incorporation of variable content zoning, enabling the display to showcase a single large image or multiple content zones. This dynamic feature will encompass live video, instant replays, real-time statistics, graphics, animations, and sponsorship messages.
The new North Board will complement the existing South End Zone auxiliary video displays and field-level ribbon displays, all of which are Daktronics products. As part of the comprehensive upgrade, NC State will also receive a digital content package produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services, further enhancing the overall game-day experience for fans.
