Canon U.S.A. Inc. has launched its innovative Colorado M-series 64-inch roll-to-roll printer, designed to meet diverse user needs. The printer offers two speed configurations, optional UVgel white ink capabilities, and a range of modular options, allowing users to customize the device to their specific business requirements and scale up as needed.
Featuring an industrial-build quality, the M-series introduces a new design with in-field upgrade capabilities, all based on a single platform. The M3 BASE configuration can be expanded over time to the M5W PRO configuration, providing increased functionality such as speed enhancements, double-sided printing, dual-roll capability, white ink capabilities, and FLXfinish+.
One notable feature is the easy upgrade to ‘W’ versions for white ink, allowing customers to add this option after their initial purchase. The M-series incorporates the latest print head technology from the Colorado 1630 devices, offering double the nozzles, higher firing frequency, increased durability, and a reduction in the number of print heads from eight to four compared to the Colorado 1650 devices.
The introduction of white UVgel ink significantly expands the scope for applications, including window graphics, labels, and wallpaper. With new media detection sensor technology, the M-series supports easy handling of various media types, including heavy structured, transparent, colored, metallic, and magnetic materials.
The M-series stands out in white printing speed, offering two to three times faster output while using 50 to 70 percent less ink. Production speeds range from 312ft²/hr to 1,709ft²/hr, demonstrating its efficiency.
The non-evaporative UVgel inks, known for their gel-like consistency, along with the printer’s automated maintenance features, ensure that the ink and nozzles are ready for printing without the need for manual intervention. The UVgel ink’s unique formulation enables fast build-up of dense and opaque white images with fewer passes than conventional technologies.
Customers can choose the FLXfinish+ option for added flexibility in finishing, allowing matte, gloss, or mixed finishes on the same print without additional varnish.
For high-volume customers, the M-series offers automation options with UVgel Print Factory or UVgel Wallpaper Factory configurations, integrating the printer with cutting, rewinding, taping, or sheet stacking for efficient handling of large volumes.
The M-series Colorado printers are supported by PRISMAguide XL, a powerful make-ready software provided free with each white ink-enabled device, ensuring effortless production with consistent high quality.
In terms of sustainability, the Colorado M-series aligns with environmentally responsible practices. The UVgel technology consumes up to 40 percent less CMYK ink compared to other technologies, and the low-heat, energy-efficient LED curing system reduces energy consumption.
The Colorado M-series printer is designed for sustainability-conscious organizations, building on the GREENGUARD Gold certification from UL Environment achieved by its predecessor, the Colorado 1650 UVgel 460. With a focus on a low total cost of ownership and rapid return on investment, the M-series offers the lowest operating costs in its category and unique modular upgrade options. Shinichi “Sam” Yoshida, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Canon U.S.A., Inc., emphasized the M-series’ reputation for speed, quality, and productivity, highlighting its appeal to customers seeking to enhance their large-format graphics printing capabilities.
