“Daktronics, headquartered in Brookings, South Dakota, embarked on a collaborative venture with San José State University in California to bring the largest LED video display to a collegiate basketball facility. This remarkable project was successfully concluded in the autumn of 2022, delighting audiences during the 2022-23 basketball and women’s gymnastics seasons.
Jeff Konya, the Director of Athletics at San José State, expressed his satisfaction with the new Daktronics video board recently installed in the Provident Credit Union Event Center on the university campus. He remarked, “The fact that it is the largest surface area video board in all of college athletics is a triumph in and of itself, but it certainly contributes to creating a first-class game-day environment for basketball and gymnastics.”
The colossal end wall display spans approximately 15.5 feet in height and 75.5 feet in width, featuring a 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver sharp and clear imagery to fans throughout the arena. The display is capable of variable content zoning, allowing it to exhibit a single large image or be segmented into multiple zones. These zones can then display any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics, animations, and sponsorship messages.
Eric Cain, a Daktronics sales representative, expressed excitement about collaborating with San José State University to create a state-of-the-art event center that will be a sought-after destination for fans and students. He noted, “The video boards will be a pivotal part of the overall experience, contributing to a memorable atmosphere.”
Along with the main display, San José State also received two marquee displays and five courtside scorers tables. Each scorers table measures approximately 2.5 feet in height and 10 feet in width, featuring 5.9-millimeter pixel spacings. These displays offer opportunities to showcase sponsors during events while also providing additional information, statistics, and graphics that fans desire.
Outside the venue, one marquee display will feature 10-millimeter pixel spacing, measuring 3 feet in height and 61 feet in width, while the other display will feature 8-millimeter pixel spacing, measuring 7 feet in height and 12 feet in width. These displays engage audiences as they arrive at the venue or pass by, sharing current and upcoming event information, sponsorship messages, and other athletics and campus announcements.
In addition to the equipment installation, San José State will also receive a content package produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services. This package will enhance the overall fan experience and event atmosphere.”
