New videoboard will be installed at Provost Umphrey Stadium on the campus of Lamar University.
SNA Displays has successfully secured a contract for the enhancement of the videoboard at Provost Umphrey Stadium, situated on the Lamar University campus just east of Houston. This public college is home to the Lamar Cardinal’s Division I football team, boasting a seating capacity of 16,000 spectators.
Anthony James Partners (AJP), serving as the owner’s representative, played a pivotal role in providing design and procurement services. AJP collaborated with Lamar in the selection of SNA Displays to manufacture and supply the new videoboard, utilizing its cutting-edge 10 mm pixel pitch EMPIRE™ Exterior line of LED video display technology.
The upcoming scoreboard promises a substantial upgrade, featuring an impressive 63 feet width and 35 feet height, nearly double the size of the existing board. With a high-definition resolution of 1,920-by-1,080 pixels, this enhanced digital display will process over 2 million pixels.
Lamar’s Athletic Director, Jeff O’Malley, expressed the institution’s commitment to delivering a unique and family-friendly experience for fans on game day. O’Malley stated, “We will never stop trying to find new ways to engage our students and fans to make their visit to our amazing venues a special one. We want Provost Umphrey Stadium to be a place fans enjoy and look forward to coming back to.”
In addition to the enlarged video screen, the new scoreboard will house a state-of-the-art Point-Source Audio system, meticulously designed by AJP to significantly enhance the auditory experience for fans. This includes Danley Sound Labs synergy horn long-throw speakers complemented by dual 18-inch subwoofers powered by Danley DNA 20K4 Pro amplifiers.
Complementing the overall structure are notable elements such as a seven-foot-tall interlocking LU logo on the field-facing side and a thirty-seven-foot-wide illuminated Lamar University athletics logo facing the street.
AJ Faxel, Director of Sports and Live Events for SNA Displays, highlighted the strategic improvements, stating, “By eliminating the static-display elements and enlarging the digital canvas with an even tighter pixel pitch, Lamar will greatly enhance the visual capability of its videoboard and overall gameday experience. We’re very excited to partner with the Lamar athletics team.”
The comprehensive upgrades to the Lamar University videoboard are expected to be completed in time for the commencement of the 2023 season.
